Question
What is an Eye Disease?
Answer
An eye disease, also known as an eye disorder or visual impairment, encompasses a variety of conditions that affect the structure, function, or visual ability of the eyes. These conditions may include inflammation, infection, tumors, degenerative diseases, and other forms of damage.
What is Coats Disease?
Coats disease (exudative retinal disorder) is a sporadic retinal disorder characterized by abnormal dilation of retinal capillaries, progressive intraretinal submacular exudation, and extensive retinal detachment. The condition predominantly affects adolescent males and is usually unilateral in nature. Coats disease typically affects one eye and occasionally both eyes. The course of the disease is slow and progressive, often difficult to detect in the early stages. As the condition progresses, symptoms such as decreased vision, leukocoria, and retinal detachment may occur. There is currently no effective medication treatment available, with treatment methods including laser photocoagulation, cryotherapy, electrocoagulation, and vitreoretinal surgery.
