Question
Unsteady walking and unclear speech in a one-year-old with unknown factors or etiology for brain nerve developmental disorders. How should it be handled?
Answer
The most striking symptom is the unsteady walking and unclear speech due to cerebellar dysfunction. Patients may experience a loss of coordination in movements of the head, trunk, and limbs, reduced motor coordination, head tremors, involuntary body swaying, difficulties in maintaining normal posture, standing balance issues (usually tilting to one side or backward, sometimes also falling forward and rolling over), and nodding movements (caused by uncoordinated contractions of neck muscles).
Treatment Suggestions
- There is currently no effective treatment for this condition.
- For patients with mild symptoms, administration of motion suppressants may help alleviate the symptoms.
