Question
How many times has water entered the baby’s ear during the bath? The baby is currently showing no symptoms, but I am worried. Please advise the expert!!! Thank you.
Answer
Dear Parent, when water enters a baby’s ear, you should immediately tilt the baby’s head to the side where the water entered and gently suction out the water using a disinfected cotton ball (stick), then dry it clean. Generally, cotton swabs can only clean the outer part of the ear, so be careful and gentle to avoid piercing the eardrum. Additionally, if water enters the ear during swimming or bathing, most of the time it will drain out naturally. Once there is hydrops in the inner ear, immediate hospital treatment should be sought for specialized care.
