Question

My son is 6 years old and has been frequently urinating for the past 1-2 months, about every 1-2 minutes. The hospital has carefully checked his urine and found no issues. He hasn’t been drinking less of the cooling syrup, and the kindergarten teacher also mentioned the same thing; even if he can’t urinate, he still goes to the bathroom and turns around a few times. It’s almost time for him to start first grade next semester. What should we do? Previous Treatment and Effectiveness: The hospital has once carefully checked his urine, and the doctor said there was nothing wrong.

Answer

Frequent urination in children is quite common. There are many reasons for frequent urination, and since the parents have carefully checked and found no issues, it is not a pathological cause. In addition to factors such as excessive water intake, cold weather, or ill-fitting pants, the most common cause is psychogenic frequent urination. Once you discover your child has frequent urination, try to find the cause. Don’t ask your child too much in a tense manner or ask others about rare diseases in an exaggerated way, as this may reinforce the child’s urge to urinate.
