Question

What is Down Syndrome? Is there a cure?

Answer

Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder resulting from an extra chromosome on the 21st pair, also known as mongolism. Individuals with this condition typically exhibit unique physical characteristics along with intellectual disabilities. This disorder can be prevented through a Down screening test conducted between 18 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. If a chromosomal abnormality is detected through DNA testing, early termination of pregnancy may be recommended. Currently, there is no treatment available for Down Syndrome.
