Question

Dear team, my daughter is 14 months old and has caught hand, foot, and mouth disease. She has blisters under her tongue and some on her hands. We went to the hospital and got a prescription for <Throat Sword Spray (Children’s Formula)>. How much of this medication should we use? Should we spray it directly onto the throat or on the blisters under the tongue? How often? Thank you.

Answer

Hand, foot, and mouth disease in children is generally an acute viral infectious disease. Antiviral granules or ribavirin granules can be taken internally, along with topical sprays. If necessary, ribavirin or acyclovir injections can be administered intravenously. If there are no obvious low fevers or complications such as viral pneumonia or myocarditis, the condition is usually not serious. Most cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease are self-limiting and will recover on their own. Please refer to the instructions for medication administration.
