Question
I’ve been experiencing pain and numbness in my arm recently. I don’t have the strength to lift it, and it can’t be rotated quickly without causing severe pain. There’s also a large bump on my joint, and it feels soft to the touch, with what seems like fluid inside. I went to the hospital and the doctor carefully examined it and diagnosed it as osteomylitis. Is osteomylitis easy to treat?
Answer
Osteomylitis is predominantly caused by improper use of force, which leads to damage to the periosteum and results in regional effusion and inflammatory reactions. Some cases may be triggered by trauma to the periosteum area, and there is a possibility of developing purulent inflammation if there is an infection. Generally, the recovery from osteomylitis is slow, and recurrence is likely if not properly managed after treatment. You can adopt treatments such as regional microwave therapy, ice packs, and the use of external analgesic ointments in conjunction with topical pain-relieving and wind-relieving ointments. In case of bacterial infection, antibiotic treatment should be administered.
