Optic nerve atrophy, referred to as ‘green blindness’ in traditional Chinese medicine, can manifest as a conscious decrease in vision or a narrow field of view, gradually worsening, and may eventually result in deafness. A careful eye examination may reveal a pale or blue optic disc, clear boundaries, and an obvious sieve plate. The blood vessels of the retina generally appear normal. It is advisable to be cautious about using medications that are toxic to the optic nerve and to develop good living habits, as well as to undergo regular checks.
