Question
My child has been crying and fussing constantly lately, and I’m not sure what’s wrong. Is hand, foot, and mouth disease severe without coma or seizures?
Answer
After discharge, it’s important to ensure your child gets plenty of rest, minimizes physical activity, and pays attention to their diet. Give them more plain water to drink and consume more easily digestible foods. Increase their intake of vegetables and fruits, and avoid highly irritating foods. Cold, hard, and spicy foods should be avoided. Try not to take your child to crowded places, and keep the indoor air circulating. Give your child a bath daily. Pay attention to keeping warm, and dress them in more clothes to prevent catching a cold.
