Question
What is Bell’s Palsy? I’ve never heard of this condition before. What causes it? And what kind of treatment should someone with this rare illness receive? Or can they fully recover to their previous state?
Answer
Bell’s Palsy, also known as facial neuritis or facial paralysis in clinical diagnosis, is primarily a form of facial palsy caused by viral infection. Symptoms include facial muscle paralysis, loss of forehead texture, inability to close the eyes, and drooling. In the acute phase of treatment, intravenous injection of corticosteroids is first used to nourish the nerves with B vitamins, along with traditional Chinese acupuncture to stimulate nerve recovery and post-recovery training. Most patients can fully recover to their previous condition, but severe cases may leave residual symptoms.
