Down syndrome screening can only detect the risk of a fetus having Down syndrome, not a definitive diagnosis. A high-risk result does not necessarily mean the fetus will have Down syndrome, and a low-risk result does not completely rule out the possibility. A definitive diagnosis requires amniocentesis. Currently, there are no other treatment options.
