Question

How to treat a pediatric fracture?

Answer

After a child’s lower leg fracture, the affected limb should be immediately immobilized, and the child should be taken to the hospital for an X-ray examination as soon as possible to determine the severity of the fracture. If the fracture is stable, such as a green branch fracture, or if the ends of the fracture are well-aligned, external fixation using a cast or splint can be used, and regular follow-ups should be scheduled until the injury heals. If the fracture is unstable or the displacement is severe, surgery may be required for open reduction and internal fixation.
