Question

What does chromosomal abnormality mean?

Answer

Chromosomes are the fundamental substances that make up the cell nucleus and are the carriers of genes. Humans have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs). Chromosomal abnormalities can be divided into numerical abnormalities and structural abnormalities. For example, Down syndrome (trisomy 21) is a common case of numerical abnormality. The causes of chromosomal anomalies are not yet clear and may be related to the incorrect separation of chromosomes during the late stage of cell division or influenced by factors within and outside the body, leading to chromosome fragmentation and recombination.
