Question
I’ve just had a fever again after being diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease. Is this a recurrence? Since my child is being kept at home, I’m not sure when I might spread the disease. I went to the hospital before I was fully recovered, and now I’ve started to have a fever again. I suspect it’s a recurrence. Is it?
Answer
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is an intestinal infectious disease. Typically, after infection, immunity is developed, making reinfection unlikely. In this case, there is no need to worry too much; the fever could be due to the common cold. After infection with hand, foot, and mouth disease, the body’s constitution weakens and resistance decreases, which may lead to infection by other viruses or bacteria. It is recommended to undergo a routine blood test and seek treatment if there are symptoms. If symptoms are severe, it is advised to go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible.
