Question
I’ve been receiving hormone treatment for facial paralysis for a week now. I haven’t had acupuncture and I want to go out and apply some light makeup. Is that okay? Besides the facial paralysis, can I eat spicy food? Can patients with facial paralysis use many simple cosmetics? I need to wear makeup after work.
Answer
It’s not advisable to wear makeup during the treatment period. In cases of mild facial paralysis, it may just be a disturbance in appearance, causing the mouth to tilt when smiling. In severe cases, it can lead to difficulties in closing the eyes, puckering the lips, and interfere with normal survival. The vast majority of patients with facial paralysis who undergo proper treatment during the acute phase do not leave significant sequelae, do not interfere with normal survival, and can later be complemented by acupuncture, facial acupuncture, etc., to enhance the recovery of facial function.
