Question

I recently had a stroke, which has caused one side of my mouth to droop, and I leak water when drinking. I’ve been diagnosed with a stroke and would like to ask if acupuncture can treat facial paralysis?

Answer

A patient with recent recurrent stroke symptoms and multiple occurrences of facial paralysis is advised to consult a hospital’s Traditional Chinese Medicine department for a re-examination and acupuncture treatment. Facial paralysis caused by recurrent strokes may also lead to facial neuritis, which can result in peripheral facial nerve palsy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture can be administered, or a variety of medications can be used to alleviate regional inflammation.
