Question

How to care for a child with epilepsy? My child has been acting a bit abnormally lately. While eating dinner, they would suddenly zone out and then come back to themselves. I suspect it might be epilepsy. What are some typical symptoms that a child with epilepsy might repeatedly exhibit?

Answer

In the case of a myoclonic epilepsy small recurrence, the child may repeatedly interrupt what they were doing suddenly, such as dropping a pen while doing homework, and then regain focus in one or two seconds or more. They may not be aware of what happened just before this, besides the situation when eating dinner or suddenly dropping chopsticks without knowing why. In severe attacks, the child may repeatedly fall to the ground, froth at the mouth, become unresponsive, and emit sounds like animal calls.
