Question
I am 48 years old and have recently been experiencing discomfort in my eyes. After a detailed ophthalmic examination, the doctor diagnosed me with optic nerve atrophy. I’m not quite clear on what this condition is, so I would like to ask about the different types of optic nerve atrophy.
Answer
Optic nerve atrophy typically falls into two types: primary and secondary. During fundus examination, the optic disc may appear pale yellow or pale whitish, with blurred borders and the disappearance of physiological concavity, as well as narrowing of the vessels.
