Question

My child has been born not long ago, and their eyes always tear up, and they are always crying. How should we handle open-angle glaucoma?

Answer

Open-angle glaucoma is usually caused by a decrease in intraocular pressure, with early symptoms being not very apparent. Often, it’s only when vision becomes unclear that a detailed examination at the hospital is conducted, by which time it may already be in the middle or late stage, missing the best treatment opportunity. Treatment at this point may not be very effective, and could ultimately lead to severe complications such as blindness. Generally, medication to reduce intraocular pressure is used for treatment, and surgery may be necessary in the later stages.
