Question

Can psychological stress in children lead to epilepsy? My child was active and healthy, but suddenly experienced whole-body convulsions. The doctor diagnosed it as epilepsy and it’s prone to recurrence. What treatment methods are available?

Answer

Pediatric epilepsy symptoms are diverse and vary depending on the type. Common symptoms include convulsive symptoms such as blinking, nystagmus, or twitching of the corners of the mouth, muscle rigidity, and slight clonic spasms in localized limbs. Autonomous nervous system symptoms such as respiratory arrest, changes in breathing rhythm, flushing, drooling, and vomiting. Older children are less likely to have recurrent autonomous nervous system symptoms and instead may primarily exhibit oral movements or purposeless irregular limb movements.
