Question

What should I do if my baby won’t drink formula milk?

Answer

The baby is about three months old and has recently stopped drinking formula milk, opting only for breast milk. However, the breast milk might not be sufficient, leading to the baby possibly not eating enough and crying frequently! I want to wean the baby off breast milk but am unsure how to do it. We used to feed the baby a mix of formula and breast milk, where 150 milliliters of formula was consumed each time. The milk supply is limited; we need to encourage the baby to suck more often so that the next time there will be more milk. Otherwise, the supply will only decrease. The mother should eat more nutritious foods like soybean pork trotter soup, fresh fish soup, and peanut sparerib soup. Generally, when the baby recovers from breastfeeding, they tend to resist formula milk. Firstly, choose a good quality formula that is similar to breast milk and has a mild, light taste; this will increase the baby’s acceptance. Secondly, select a good bottle considering factors like material and size. Bottles with simulated nipples can also help reduce the baby’s resistance.
