Question

What causes ulcerative gastritis?

Answer

Gastric diseases are mainly caused by Helicobacter pylori infection through the digestive tract. It is recommended to adopt the quadruple therapy for gastritis under the guidance of a local doctor: The most common quadruple therapy includes the following drug combinations, dosages, and methods: (1) Potassium bismuth citrate 240 mg + Amoxicillin 750 mg + Metronidazole 400 mg + Omeprazole 20 mg or (2) Potassium bismuth citrate 240 mg + Clarithromycin 500 mg + Metronidazole 400 mg + Omeprazole 20 mg (3) Potassium bismuth citrate 240 mg + Tetracycline 500 mg + Metronidazole 400 mg + Omeprazole 20 mg. Take one of the above drug combinations twice a day, with each medication taken twice a day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon), for a course of 7 to 14 days. After one course is completed, continue to take Potassium bismuth citrate alone for 6 weeks, with the same dosage and method as before. Pay attention to perform a skin test for Amoxicillin. This regimen can kill Helicobacter pylori and protect the gastric mucosa. Continue taking the medication to prevent recurrence. It is essential to avoid smoking, alcohol, coffee, and spicy foods. Also, reduce intake of starchy foods such as potatoes, taro, vermicelli, rice noodles, and cold noodles.
