Question

What are the causes of pediatric epilepsy?

Answer

Primary epilepsy is characterized by the absence of detectable structural changes or metabolic abnormalities in the patient’s brain that can explain the symptoms, mainly caused by genetic factors. Secondary epilepsy has a more complex etiology, primarily due to brain diseases and systemic diseases caused by various reasons, with genetics also playing a certain role. Newborns with difficult deliveries or trauma, or those experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, asphyxia, or intermittent cyanosis, may have intracranial hemorrhage leading to epilepsy. Artificially fed children over one year old may also be prone to epilepsy.
