Question

My daughter has been frequently blinking and involuntarily opening her mouth for the past two weeks. She also had blinking issues a year ago, which were diagnosed as myopia and conjunctivitis. After medication, her condition improved, but she continues to undergo eye training and wear glasses (unaided vision is 1.0 and 0.8). Recently, the blinking has recurred, and using Tobi ophthalmic drops has not shown significant improvement. When asked about the reason for her mouth opening, she replied that there was an itchy feeling inside her mouth. After an oral examination, everything was normal. A neurologist suspects it may be a tic disorder and has prescribed “Thioridazine Tablets.”

Answer

Thioridazine Tablets can be used for patients aged 7 to 12 with psychomotor instability or tic-dysphonia syndrome. The initial dose is half a tablet per dose, taken once or twice daily. The dosage can be gradually increased, and after symptom control, the medication can be adjusted as appropriate over a period of 2 to 3 months.
