Question

What causes baby diarrhea?

Answer

If your baby has loose, watery stools, it is advisable to promptly conduct a routine stool examination to determine if there are any white blood cells present, in order to rule out a bacterial infectious diarrhea diagnosis. If the cause is bacterial infection, antibiotics should be taken under a doctor’s guidance to control intestinal infections both inside and outside the body, and to avoid the misuse of antibiotics. If your baby’s symptoms are severe, you may temporarily give them an intestinal mucosal protective agent and use an ecological preparation to improve the intestinal microenvironment. If your child experiences frequent diarrhea, an increased number of bowel movements, or large amounts of diarrhea; is unable to eat normally; frequently vomits and cannot take oral medication; has a persistent high fever; shows signs of dehydration such as sunken eyes, reduced tears, dry mucous membranes, or decreased urine output; or changes in consciousness such as irritability, apathy, or drowsiness; or if there is blood in the stool, it should be sent to the hospital immediately. Be cautious about feeding your baby vegetables and fruits high in fiber, as well as high-sugar foods or high-fat diets. Avoid giving sugary drinks including commercial juices, sweet tea, soda, cola, and sports drinks.
