Question

How to handle a baby’s mycoplasma pneumonia infection?

Answer

The symptoms of mycoplasma pneumonia include fatigue, sore throat, headache, cough, fever, loss of appetite, diarrhea, muscle pain, and earache. The main symptom is cough, which may be accompanied by fever. During physical examination, lung symptoms may not be obvious. Diagnosis can be made by combining mycoplasma antibody testing with a chest X-ray. Treatment of choice is macrolide antibiotics such as erythromycin, clarithromycin, and azithromycin. For children with severe coughing, appropriate cough suppressants can be administered.
