Question

I have facial paralysis and it’s very painful. What are some effective treatment methods, and how long will it take to recover?

Answer

If the condition is not severe, treatment generally begins to show improvement within one to two weeks, with full recovery typically achievable within a few months. The treatment for facial paralysis aims to promote the early regression of regional inflammation and swelling, and to enhance neural function recovery, otherwise, it may lead to adverse effects such as crooked mouth and eyes. After three months of conservative treatment, if there is no recovery in facial nerve paralysis, and if facial nerve conduction velocity and electromyography of the facial muscles show no response (no potential movement), surgical intervention may be considered.
