The main treatment for otitis media is to determine an effective antibiotic medication, commonly using penicillin, erythromycin, azithromycin, or ceftriaxone. It is recommended that the dosage be sufficient and the course of treatment last at least one week. If parents notice that their baby has a fever that does not subside after a cold, or if there are symptoms such as lack of energy, decreased appetite, nausea, dry heaves, or vomiting.
