Question
Can children with epilepsy be treated with hormones? Can they heal themselves completely? Will it affect the child?
Answer
Children with epilepsy cannot be treated with hormones. Currently, the main treatment for epilepsy in China and internationally is medication-based. Medication is an essential treatment method for epilepsy. About 70% of epilepsy patients can be effectively controlled through routine antiepileptic medications. Among them, 50% to 60% can recover completely after 2 to 5 years of treatment. Proper and standardized antiepileptic medication is crucial. If surgery is required due to the ineffectiveness of medication, do not give children hormones. Instead, take the child to a local regular hospital pediatrician for guidance on treatment.
