Question
What Causes Facial Paralysis?
Answer
Facial paralysis is commonly due to one-sided facial neuritis caused by colds or viral infections, which then affects the function of the facial muscles. Typically, facial paralysis is recoverable. The main causes include nerve damage resulting from viral or bacterial infections, poor blood circulation around the facial nerve, and nerve inflammation. In addition, otological diseases such as otitis media, labyrinthitis, mastoiditis, and osteogenic purulent inflammation may also lead to facial paralysis.
