Question
What Causes Neonatal Seizures?
Answer
Neonatal seizures, also referred to as neonatal convulsions, typically manifest as pale complexion, trembling limbs, fixed gaze in the eyes, and other atypical symptoms. The baby should be placed in a semi-recumbent position to prevent aspiration of vomit that could lead to suffocation, and clothing should be loosened to maintain clear breathing. Someone should be present to supervise to prevent the baby from falling. The main causes generally include hypoglycemic encephalopathy, neonatal hypoxemia-ischemic encephalopathy, intracranial hemorrhage in neonates, and neonatal purulent meningitis. Oxygen inhalation is provided to protect the brain and prevent recurrence of coughing or encephalopathy.
