Question
My child has had tonsillitis for a few days now and has been taking anti-inflammatory medication, but the fever keeps coming back and she doesn’t want to eat. What should I do if my baby has tonsillitis and a fever?
Answer
Pediatric tonsillitis is caused by various pathogens that infiltrate the child’s tonsils. Its regional manifestations are pronounced, hence the name ‘pediatric tonsillitis’. It is one of the acute upper respiratory infections. If so, there will definitely be regional throat pain, general weakness, and fever, leading to oral and pharyngeal symptoms. Generally, these symptoms will persist for three to four days. Purulent tonsillitis may be a severe bacterial infection with regional pus and an increased number of pus-like white blood cells, which may cause a longer-lasting fever, possibly requiring four to five days. Therefore, antibiotics must be used, and corticosteroids and antipyretic analgesics may be considered.
