Question
Is neuroblastoma inherited from parents?
Answer
Neuroblastoma is the third most common abdominal malignant tumor in children, usually occurring before the age of 10, particularly in children under 3 years old. After the age of 3, the incidence rate increases significantly, but it becomes very rare after the age of 5. Approximately 3% of adult cases are known as adult neuroblastoma. The exact cause of neuroblastoma is not yet clear, and it may be related to the deletion or mutation of the WT-1 gene located on chromosome 11 (at 11p13), or it may be associated with the impairment of mesenchymal embryonic stem cells in differentiation to renal tissue and continuous cell division. This disease has a certain familial predisposition, so some believe that it also has a genetic component.
