Question

My child is 23 days old today. The jaundice level before breastfeeding is 12. There is a lot of vomiting, do I need to stop breastfeeding? They say drinking glucose water helps jaundice subside, and is a jaundice level of 164 normal for a newborn?

Answer

If the jaundice level reaches 12.7, it indicates a high level, whether it’s physiological or pathological jaundice. Any increase in jaundice levels suggests liver damage. Currently, further detailed examination is needed to determine the specific cause of the increased jaundice, and targeted treatment should be adopted. Recommendation: Additionally, stop breastfeeding, get plenty of sunlight exposure, and if necessary, use medication control and adopt phototherapy. Wishing the patient a quick recovery!
