Question

Does neonatal jaundice affect weight gain?

Answer

Physiological neonatal jaundice usually does not affect the baby’s growth and development. However, if the jaundice level is too high, it may lead to decreased appetite in the baby, which in turn could affect weight gain. Pathological jaundice, if not treated promptly, may even cause severe nuclear jaundice. Therefore, when a baby’s jaundice is detected, it should be taken to the hospital for examination immediately and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment to ensure the healthy growth of the baby.
