Question

What are the differences between newborn colds, coughs, and pneumonia?

Answer

Inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, such as the nose, throat, and pharynx, in newborns can lead to cold symptoms. Infections in the lower respiratory tract may result in pneumonia. Colds typically present with fever and cough, but pneumonia symptoms are more severe, including difficulty breathing, rapid breathing, wheezing, and exertion. Fever in pneumonia may be harder to bring down, and a special wheezing sound may be heard during coughing. Timely treatment of colds can prevent them from developing into pneumonia.
