The early stage of pediatric paralysis often presents with non-specific symptoms such as fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and general discomfort. Parents often believe it’s a cold or indigestion. After 1-4 days, the fever may subside for a few days and then return even higher. The obvious manifestation is hyperalgesia, with pain that makes it hard for others to touch, accompanied by facial redness, headache, sore throat, dry heaves, and more.
