Question
My child has a slight cold with a fever, has seen a doctor, and taken antipyretic medication, and the fever has subsided. Now they have a bit of a headache and feel weak, and don’t want to move around. I bought some pears to make water to drink for them. Can a child with a cold, cough, and fever eat pears?
Answer
Pears are slightly sweet and cool in nature, with the functions of moistening the lungs, cooling the heart, resolving phlegm, clearing the lungs, and reducing fire. They are suitable for symptoms such as coughing, excessive phlegm, thirst, hoarseness, wind-heat, red and swollen eyes, throat pain, and nausea. They can be eaten in moderation as pears can nourish yin and moisten dryness. However, it is advisable to avoid eating too cold foods in general and to consume more easily digestible porridge and other protein-rich foods. These are my suggestions for this question; I hope they are helpful to you. Wishing you and your child a speedy recovery!
