Question

How to Determine If a Child Has Pneumonia?

Answer

For common pneumonia, parents can make the following observations: the child’s body temperature is usually above 38 degrees Celsius and does not subside after several days; coughing, wheezing, rapid breathing, and flaring nostrils; blue or purple lips, which indicate a more severe condition; fever and cough accompanied by poor mental state, irritability, crying or coma, and seizures suggest a higher possibility of pneumonia. If a child under one year old has a breathing rate of 50 times or more when calm, it may indicate pneumonia. If most of these characteristics are present in the child, it is advisable to take them to the hospital immediately for medical attention.
