Question

Does acupuncture for facial paralysis hurt more to be better? My face is stiff and I can’t blink normally. The hospital checked and said it’s facial paralysis. Since it’s in the early stage, the doctor recommended acupuncture treatment first. But recently, it has been getting more painful, and the doctor said that pain is a good sign. Is that true?

Answer

Acupuncture treatment for facial paralysis doesn’t necessarily mean the more pain, the better. It could be that the technique is not correct, leading to damage to the facial muscles and nerve cells, causing swelling and obstruction of blood circulation, which further worsens the condition, resulting in stiff facial muscles, twitching, general weakness, and frequent occurrence of symptoms like colds.
