Question

How Long Does Neonatal Jaundice Last?

Answer

Neonatal jaundice usually disappears on its own within one to two weeks after birth. However, if the baby’s jaundice continues for more than a month, this may be a pathological condition that requires further examination and treatment. Possible causes include dietary or lifestyle issues such as breastfeeding; poor liver metabolism and detoxification function; or hemolytic anemia caused by red blood cell destruction. In some cases, medication may be needed to help eliminate the jaundice. If you are concerned about your baby’s jaundice, it is advisable to consult a doctor early on for professional advice.
