Question

Is severe facial nerve inflammation a cause of Bell’s palsy?

Answer

Facial nerve inflammation is a pathological factor in Bell’s palsy. There are two types of facial nerve paralysis: central facial nerve palsy and peripheral facial nerve palsy. Central facial nerve palsy is caused by diseases of the central nervous system, such as gliomas, postoperative sequelae, cerebral thrombosis, and post-hemorrhagic sequelae. Peripheral facial nerve palsy is caused by facial neuritis, mainly due to viral infections, which can lead to peripheral facial nerve paralysis. It is recommended that patients consult a doctor for standardized treatment, including intravenous acyclovir, B-complex vitamins, hormones, as well as acupuncture and oral prednisone, B-complex vitamins, and other treatments.
