Question

How long does neonatal jaundice in 37-week-old babies last? If the child still has jaundice around 60 days and the use of yinzi yellow has not helped, what should be done?

Answer

Neonatal jaundice can be categorized into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. Physiological jaundice usually appears within 2 to 5 days after full-term newborns are born and generally subsides within 14 days; premature infants may take up to 3 to 4 weeks to clear, with serum bilirubin levels not exceeding 205umol/L (12mg/dl) for full-term infants and not exceeding 257umol/L (15mg/dl) for premature infants. Pathological jaundice may require further medical evaluation and treatment.
