Question

How long does it take to recover from pediatric pneumonia?

Answer

Pneumonia is usually caused by bacterial, viral, or mycoplasma infections in the lungs. The treatment duration depends on the patient’s condition and the type of bacteria causing the infection. For Streptococcus pneumoniae infections, if the bacteria are sensitive to penicillin, treatments with penicillin or amoxicillin are typically used; if they are sensitive to methicillin, then oxacillin or cloxacillin are chosen; if there is resistance to methicillin, vancomycin or a combination with rifampin is used. For general bacterial pneumonia, taking antibiotics alone is usually ineffective.
