Question

My baby is half a year old, but the jaundice has dropped and then risen again. As a new mother, I’m a bit confused and want to know why.

Answer

As long as the child is eating well, gaining weight, and overall conditions are good, there is no need to worry about the jaundice index. After treatment, if the baby is not fed enough to drink more water and increase urination, bilirubin levels can be reduced. It could be that the cause of jaundice has not been rooted out yet; the time for blue light therapy is not enough. Although the superficial bilirubin in the skin has receded, bilirubin levels in the blood or other organs are still high, which may reappear on the skin surface.
