The initial dosage of prednisone for nephrotic syndrome patients is 1 mg/kg per day, taken orally continuously for about 8 weeks, which can be shortened to 12 weeks if necessary. After the symptoms are basically alleviate , reduce the original dosage by 10% every 2 to 3 weeks. When the dosage is reduced to about 20 mg/day, slow down the rate of dose reduction because symptoms are prone to recurrence at this point. Continue to reduce until the minimum effective dosage of 10 mg/day is reached, at which point no further increase in dosage should be made. Maintain treatment for about a year and then gradually discontinue medication.
