Question

What to do when a child has diarrhea and fever?

Answer

If a child experiences nausea, vomiting, and fever again, it should be considered as a sign of acute gastroenteritis. As parents, one must never take it lightly or be negligent. It is important to ensure the child drinks plenty of water to prevent dehydration, and to eat small, frequent meals of light and nourishing foods. Avoid extremely cold or spicy irritant foods. Pay close attention to the child’s urine output and mental state. For fever, symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication can be taken or physical methods can be used for temperature reduction. If the symptoms are severe, for safety reasons, it is advisable to take the child to a regular hospital pediatric department for intravenous treatment as soon as possible.
