Question

I’ve recently been experiencing facial paralysis, and I find that my face is particularly painful. What could be causing facial paralysis and pain, and what should I do?

Answer

Facial dysfunction, or facial paralysis, is often associated with nerve damage, particularly to the trigeminal or facial nerves. It can also be a Sequelae of a stroke. If your facial pain is severe, it may be trigeminal neuralgia, characterized by burning or pricking sensations. For trigeminal neuralgia, treatment options include nerve sectioning surgery or medication to control pain, with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs being commonly used.
