Question
I recently noticed that I’m experiencing symptoms of facial paralysis again. Hi, how long does it take for a paralyzed eye to close?
Answer
The primary focus of treatment during the acute phase of facial paralysis is to prevent a recurrence of exposure keratitis. This includes applying eye ointment to the affected eye at night or using clean gauze to prevent bacterial and viral keratitis. The vast majority of patients can generally recover eyelid closure within about two weeks after receiving standardized treatment. However, some patients may take longer to recover, possibly up to three months or more, and some may leave permanent facial asymmetry or incomplete eyelid closure.
