Question

How can one self-treat facial paralysis?

Answer

The vast majority of patients experience difficulties in closing their eyes and excessive tearing. The primary reason is that the orbicularis oculi muscle cannot effectively contract, causing it to pull downwards from the bulging eye. First, have the patient close their eyes, then use the pad of your finger to massage along the indentation between the upper and lower eyelids or the lower rim of the orbit. Gently pull and push from the inside out on the upper and lower eyelids, which is beneficial for the complete recovery of upper eyelid function. Massaging with the thumb, push inwards and pull downwards from the corner of the mouth, which is beneficial for the complete recovery of the orbicularis oris, mentalis, and triangularis muscle functions.
